My 4 month old mixed breed dog has been itching, licking, and biting his skin, possibly due to alergy (he has no fleas). I’ve been told by other dog owners that it’s ok to give Benadryl for these cases. Is Benadryl safe and what dose is a healthy dose to give?

    Hi Ashly-

It’s nice to see you here though I apologize that the board is really not ready yet…

Benadryl is safe but really just covers up the underlying problem (often “allergies” which really are just a manifestation of an immune imbalance). The dose depends on your dog’s size.

I strongly advise you to consult a vet homeopath for internal treatment and dietary advice before thisgets any worse. In the meantime, Rescue remedy is a safer alternative to help the itching.

    Ashley,

What exactly are you feeding your pup? Brand and formula? Just curious, but that could be a problem depending on the ingredients.

    More info after your answer.
