The recent deaths from commercial pet food is yet another reason to be feeding fresh food.
“Menu Foods, a national manufacturer of canned and pouched wet dog and cat food, has issued a voluntary recall of food manufactured in two of its facilities between Dec. 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007, after receiving reports of illnesses in cats and dogs in the U.S. that became sick from kidney failure after eating the affected products. There have been about ten deaths reported. Menu Foods distributes to supermarkets, mass merchandisers and pet specialty stores.
This applies to wet food only. No other pet food, including dry or prescription foods, is affected by this recall.
Menu Foods manufactures the following canned and pouched wet pet food products that PetSmart carries:

According to Menu Foods, after eating impacted product, some cats and dogs refused more food, while others showed signs of renal failure (signs include loss of appetite, fatigue and vomiting) and others unfortunately died from renal failure.
