Default Brewer's Yeast with Garlic as a natural flea remedy

I've just purchased Brewer's Yeast with Garlic as a natural flea remedy after reading "Eliminate Fleas withough Poinsons" and "Are Spot-on flea killers safe?". I've searched the different options to replace Frontline and decided to try Brewers Yeast with Garlic, although now I'm wondering if that's safe, as I've read that garlic can be deadly for dogs. Is using Brewer's Yeast with Garlic a safe alternative to Frontline?

I recently asked a local holistic vet about the safety of Frontline and alternatives. Her shocking response was that Frontline is not a pesticide and that it is safe because it has been around for such a long time. Fortunately I knew to walk away and not return to her for future advice!

Hi Ashly-

Yes Brewer's Yeast and Garlic is safe for dogs (and cats). Because of the low quality of Brewer's Yeast, I prefer supplements that contain nutritional yeast. The one I use in my pratice is made by Vetline Vitamins and is called Yeast and Liver Powder (nutritional yeast, liver, garlic and kelp).

These type supplements of course do not kill fleas or ticks. They subtley change the odor of the skin to make it less attractive to external parasites. I also use a healthy powder mixed in the food called "Detox" powder. It not only aids in the body's detoxification process, but it also kills parasites (ticks, fleas, intestinal worms, etc.).

Again it is not a panacea, but *definitely* helps in the flea and tick battle.
